Affinion Corporation, which prior to 2007 was known as the Trilegiant Corporation (TLG)(previously Progeny Marketing Innovations, previously Benefit Consultants Inc.), is a membership-based discount provider of travel, shopping, health, dental, entertainment, buying clubs, and consumer protection services. TLG/Affinion is the successor to Cendant Membership Services, Inc. and Cendant Incentives. TLG/Affinion claims that it offers risk-free program memberships with money-back guarantees.

One of the most prominent actions made by this company is the mailing of their $10 USD checks. The checks can be cashed by anyone but are addressed to whomever they were mailed to. In small text underneath the amount the check explains, "By cashing or depositing this check you are purchasing a membership in Buyers Advantage." Because the document is indeed a real check, recipients may inadvertently cash the check, or a third party may cash it without the recipients knowledge.

If you are a credit card user, you should check your credit card and bank statements carefully for suspicious charges; Many consumers have been charged by Trilegiant for reports and services they say they did not order. Trilegiant has a history of complaints concerning deceptive marketing and selling strategies, unauthorized charges on consumers' credit cards, and non-cancellation of memberships following cancellation requests. Consumers complaint that they are often signed up for club memberships without authorization and billed for monthly charges. Trilegiant consumer complaints also address the methods used to sign up unwilling consumers and include complimentary checks internet surveys and telephone solicitations. Trilegiant also offers "free trial periods" in their programs, then make it extremely difficult to cancel membership. Even after cancellation, consumers are still charged fees.

If you have ever stayed at a motel/hotel, purchased airline tickets or rented a car with a credit card, BEWARE! You may be a victim who was "automatically enrolled" for membership into one of this company's numerous "programs", most of which offer nothing but unauthorized deductions from your bank accounts.

Cendant itself owns or has holdings in so many companies that it creates a dizzyingly vast web of partnerships to share information with. You can book a flight on cheaptickets.com,  rent your car from Budget and stay at the Ramada Inn -- all Cendant brands or businesses, and all of which can leave customers open to targeted offers from the Cendant Marketing Group.

Trilegiant Corporation has been sued  by AK, CA, CT, IL, IA, ME, MI, MO, NJ, NC, OH, OR, PA, TN, VT, and WA.  for "deceptive solicitation practices to get consumers to pay for membership programs that purportedly provided discounts on car and home repair, shopping and other goods and services."

There are current investigations and lawsuits pending against Trilegiant.
